Top Canadian cyclist Ryder Hesjedal is looking forward to 2011 after a hugely successful 2010 season highlighted with a 7th place finish in the Tour de France and a final UCI World Ranking of 8th overall. From his home in Paia, Ryder reflected back on his accomplishments over the last several months. “2010 was a perfect season and one that will motivate me more than ever before. With the 2011 Tour de France route recently announced I couldn’t be more happy to start my training foundation in Maui.”

These aren’t the usual cycling suspects flanking Ryder Hesjedal: Movie stars Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, plus Flea, the famed bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The Hollywood actors and rock star are Hesjedal’s occasional riding partners at his training base in Hawaii. They knew him before he thrilled Canadians with his surprising seventh-place finish in the Tour de France this past summer.

Ryder Hesjedal made headlines this summer by finishing seventh at the Tour de France, the best result by a Canadian since Steve Bauer placed fourth in 1988. On Sunday, the 29-year-old Victoria, B.C. native who is currently ranked No. 6 in the world by the International Cycling Union (ICU), will provide a major Canadian name to the 2010 Queen's Park Grand Prix Pro Am race in Toronto, presented by sportsnet.ca.
